On 4th September 2025, the Sino-Ghana Research Center for West Africa (SGRC-WA) and the School of Foreign Studies and Trade (SFST) at Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT) hosted a 23- member delegation from the Confucius Institute (CI)–Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. The delegation, led by Prof. Gao, was on a summer camp program in China and included students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CoHSS) and KNUST Basic School.

Warm Reception and Interactions
The visiting team paid a courtesy call on the leadership of SFST and SGRC-WA, where they were welcomed by Prof. Yang Rong Guang, Provost of SFST, and Dr. Lemuel Gbologah, Director of SGRC-WA. The meeting created an engaging platform for dialogue on China–Ghana educational cooperation, cultural exchange, and research collaboration.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Yongdan Hou from the Schools of Optoelectronic Engineering, New Energy and Future Automotive Technology and Mr. James Gyimah Manu, a PhD visiting scholar at HUAT and lecturer at KNUST, who joined the discussions on strengthening academic partnerships.
Strengthening China–Ghana Academic Diplomacy
The discussions underscored the importance of people-to-people connections in promoting mutual understanding between the two countries. Both sides emphasized the importance of student exchange programs, collaborative research initiatives, and cross-cultural learning as essential tools for deepening China–Ghana relations.
Prof. Yang commended the Confucius Institute for its consistent role in promoting the Chinese language and culture in Ghana, while also supporting Ghanaian students in developing cross-cultural competencies. Dr. Gbologah expressed SGRC-WA’s commitment to serving as a bridge for academic diplomacy between Ghanaian and Chinese institutions.
Looking Ahead
The visit further solidified the growing partnership between KNUST and HUAT, particularly through the work of SGRC-WA, which continues to champion research, academic exchange, and cultural collaboration between West Africa and China. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to exploring further joint projects, staff exchanges, and student-centered initiatives in the future.
