Ashanti Regional Minister Leads High-Level Ghanaian Delegation to HUAT and Shiyan City

Strengthening Ghana–China Academic and Economic Cooperation

Deepening Bilateral Ties Through Leadership and Collaboration

A 13-member high-level Ghanaian delegation, led by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, visited Shiyan City and Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT) on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The visit was pivotal in advancing Ghana–China's education, innovation, and industry cooperation.


The delegation included senior representatives from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), and affiliated institutions. It aimed to expand institutional partnerships and explore strategic investments and exchange programs.


Leadership Meeting with Shiyan City and HUAT Officials

During a high-level engagement, the Deputy Mayor of Shiyan City, the President and Vice President of HUAT, the school deans, the Dean of HUAT’s International Exchange and Cooperation Office, and the Director of the Confucius Institute at KNUST welcomed the Ghanaian delegation. A closed-door leadership forum addressed collaboration opportunities across technical training, research, and investment.

Keynote by the Ashanti Regional Minister

In his keynote address, Hon. Dr. Amoakohene extended warm greetings from the President of Ghana and the people of the Ashanti Region. He proposed the establishment of a Twin City Partnership between Shiyan City and the Ashanti Region, outlining key areas for cooperation:

-Automotive manufacturing and industrial investment in Ashanti, leveraging Suame Magazine’s 200,000-strong skilled workforce

-Technical education programs, research collaborations, and industrial internships

-Infrastructure modernization, agriculture, healthcare, and tourism development

-Establishment of an Ashanti Region Investment Promotion Office in Shiyan


He also emphasized Ghana’s commitment to responsible investment, particularly in sectors like mining, to ensure environmental sustainability and community development.


                           

Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene (Ashanti Regional Minister-Ghana) delivered his keynote address on partnership opportunities between Ghana and China.


Academic Solidarity: KNUST and HUAT Collaboration

Speaking on behalf of KNUST’s Chancellor, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of KNUST highlighted the university’s role as Ghana’s leading science and technology institution. With over 90,000 students, KNUST is committed to fostering global innovation through meaningful partnerships such as its long-standing collaboration with HUAT and the Confucius Institute.

“Our association with HUAT will continue to promote scholarship and build bridges between Ghana and China,” the Pro-Vice-Chancellor remarked.

Building Bridges for the Future

The visit concluded with a shared vision to deepen cooperation and collaboration. Both sides are committed to developing sustainable, long-term initiatives that align education, research, and investment with Ghana and China's economic development priorities.

“May this visit mark the beginning of a lasting bond of prosperity, innovation, and friendship,” Hon. Dr. Amoakohene said.
