Visitation to China Three Gorges University

The School of Foreign Studies and Trade at HUAT visits the School of Foreign Languages at CTGU.

On March 20, 2025, a delegation from the School of Foreign Studies and Trade (SFST) at Hubei University of Automotive Technology (HUAT) visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) at China Three Gorges University (CTGU) to strengthen academic partnerships and promote the development of the Sino-Ghana Research Center for West Africa (SGRC-WA).

The delegation, headed by Prof. YANG Rongguang, Dean of SFST, included Dr. GBOLOGAH Lemuel, Director of the SGRC-WA, and faculty members LI Zheng and LONG Ling. They received a warm welcome from Prof. XI Jing, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages at CTGU, Party Secretary Li Weihong, and Dr. JIN Haibo, Head of the Area Studies Center.

During the briefing, Party Secretary LI Weihong outlined the school’s history, academic accomplishments, and dedication to cultivating international talent. She highlighted the institution’s crucial role in supporting China’s “Belt and Road” initiative by enhancing area studies.

Dr. JIN Haibo elaborated on the Area Studies Center's key research areas, which include Nepal, Chad, West Africa, Greece, and the Mediterranean. He emphasized the center’s international collaborations, thriving graduate programs, and role in fostering global academic exchange. The Nepal Center, recognized by the Ministry of Education, has attracted scholars from around the globe, enhancing research and policymaking efforts.

The school's dean, Prof. XI Jing, shared insights on securing national-level think tank projects and emphasized the School of Foreign Languages’ interdisciplinary approach. By integrating water resources and hydropower expertise with international studies, the school researches South Asia, Europe, and Africa, focusing on economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and governance. They aim to nurture globally skilled professionals who can navigate international affairs and trade.

Dean Prof. YANG Rongguang expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized that the visit provided invaluable insights for advancing area studies initiatives at his institution. He highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration between the two universities to enhance research output and contribute to national and regional development strategies. Dr. GBOLOGAH Lemuel also addressed methods for integrating international resources to improve the research center's impact.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Area Studies Center, where the delegation discussed issues with faculty and students, strengthening their commitment to academic collaboration and the exchange of knowledge.
